You have a new place – and with that comes awful and much-dreaded packing. Before you bribe your friends to help you move, though, there are a few things you need to do to get ready for moving day. The first order of business is getting rid of unwanted items that are either collecting dust or will not fit in your new place. You know that highlighter green shirt you never wear that was gifted to you years ago? Of course you know it. It’s a highlighter green shirt. Well, instead of keeping it in your closet for the rare chance that you might wear it – you won’t – give it away. Odds are that if you haven’t worn it by now, you never will. Aunt Carol doesn’t have to know. The same should be done with other items in your house. When moving into a new home, you want to get rid of any dead weight that no longer serves a purpose, and that includes old clothes, kitchen appliances and furniture.

Once it’s time to start packing, you’ll need a few tools, including boxes and tape. While you may be tempted to simply throw everything in random boxes, that’ll only make it harder for you during the unpacking phase. And then, you’ll have to offer your friends a bigger bribe (or a larger pizza) to stick around and help.
